RT @ManusMachinae: Pizza Session Mechatronics: the wearable future of virtual reality | TMC The Porch http://t.co/dtXcwzmk08
There is no doubt that virtual reality is a growing trend. In 2015 Oculus, Samsung and Sony will all put their respective VR products on the market. But already enthusiasts, developers and universities are buying developer kits and creating their own applications. However, many still use the traditional controllers and keyboards to interact with these worlds.
It is clear that there is a need for a new type of interaction with this new virtual world. A very promising solution lies in the emerging field of wearable technology. Manus Machinae, an Eindhoven-based start-up, currently participating in the StartupBootcamp HighTechXL, is developing a smart glove that utilizes movement data from a user’s hands to control games using the Oculus Rift.
But there are of course, a whole range of creative applications to consider ranging from drone control, translating sign-language in to speech and even applications in deep-sea diving.
Our product mentor, Edwin de Zeeuw has kindly offered us to invite the people at TMC for a virtual-reality demonstration of our technology and a pizza-fuelled brainstorm session on how to get our product to market as quickly as possible. We have many interesting cases for you to think about, ranging from our brand new induction-based sensing technology to issues of drift and latency. We have prepared various topics for the evening and hope to spur some interesting discussion on the future of vr, wearable technology and gaming.
This pizza session will be held on Tuesday the 25th at the TMC Eindhoven office (18:00h)
Interested in joining us? Send an e-mail to Edith Visser before Monday November 24th.
See you then!
PIZZA SESSION | Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC
Nov 18 2014
A Paradigm Shift for SoC-based Systems The Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC represents a relatively new alternative in the embedded landscape that addresses these challenges in a different way. This innovative device allows you to make hardware and software tradeoffs throughout the design phase and even after the design has shipped. The Zynq All Programmable SoC has a unique architecture that combines dual ARM Cortex-A9 processor cores with programmable hardware and programmable I/O on one piece of silicon. The architecture leverages familiar, SoC-like design tools and methodologies through the Vivado Design Suite, which provides multiple design entry points in C,…
Pizzasession lasers & optics: from Fantasy to Reality
Nov 19 2014
IAI industrial systems has been at the forefront of laser and optical systems technology for many years. IAI designs and supplies industrial production systems where laser, optics, precision mechanics and control software play a key role. Focus areas for IAI are: Security: systems for the application of laser-based security features into security documents. Specials, where IAI provides industrial solutions for niche markets. Kees Biesheuvel, our presenter of this pizza session, is working on a new application in the niche market “Diesel Nozzle creation”. This application, in which lasers create advanced spray holes in the nozzle, reduces emission and improves fuel efficiency.…
Workshop 3D Printing, part 2
Nov 17 2014
That’s impossible to make! So let’s print it! In the industry 3D printing technology is already becoming a fundamental tool in prototyping. However, due to its great potential and rapid development, it is currently also competing against the conventional production methods in the ‘volume’ side of the business. 3D printing is so promising that it attracted the attention of the consumer market, where the first printers are already available for less than €1000. At some point 3D printers will become cheap enough to break-open the consumer market completely and we can only speculate on what impact this will have on…
